COURSES

1.                   Foundation of Geophysics (40/2): An introductory course mainly for graduate students with the major in geology, geophysics, and other related geosciences. Topics involve seismic waves, seismic refraction and reflection, earthquake seismology, gravity and isostasy, magnetic interpretation, heat flow, and plate tectonics.

2.                   Data Analysis and Data Mining in Geosciences (40/2): A course for graduate students mainly with the major in geosciences. We will introduce some related mathematical methods used by a few geologists and geophysicists including elementary statistics, matrix algebra, spatial analysis, cluster analysis, and data classification.

3.                   Classic Literature Reading in Solid Geophysics (20/1): A graduate seminar course that reads and discusses very classical observations and discoveries in solid geophysics such as seismology, gravity, Earth’s magnetics.
